A film with a strong sense of life, the best feature of the whole film is that it is like a pot of aged wine, the more you taste, the more mellow and fragrant it becomes. The slow-paced way of narration may make young fans feel a bit boring and monotonous, especially the young people living in this era of rapid development, the pressure of life makes them spend their days in a hurry, and this state of affairs, to use a dietary metaphor, mostly likes fast food.
Tokyo Story, however, is like a sumptuous banquet that allows you to taste all the tastes of people in society, and to savor the sweetness and bitterness of life’s rights and wrongs.
When you are young, you always feel that you have all the time in the world. This is a film that requires some life experience to be able to understand. Because by understand, I do not mean to see understand, but to be able to understand life, understanding has a deeper understanding, to give the simplest example, readers will be able to understand what I mean: I do not have children before, although I know that it is not easy to be a parent, but this understanding is still only in the perceptual understanding, but when I have children, I really know how hard it is to be a parent, then I will have a deeper understanding of When I had children, I really knew how hard it was to be a parent, and that’s when I gained a deeper appreciation and understanding of parenthood.
My sons and eldest daughter have left their hometown to pursue their dreams in bigger cities. While they inject new strength into the city, a new social problem has gradually emerged, namely, the “empty nest” phenomenon.
Although the old man in this film has a young daughter who is not yet married, the traditional culture of a large family still deeply affects the old man, and it is only a matter of time before the daughter gets married. The old man must understand and sympathize with the difficulties of the children, children travel a thousand miles and mothers worry, mothers travel a thousand miles and children do not worry. This is a kind of parental attachment to their children.
The two old people do not want much for their children, or even too little, they want their children to spend time with them when they have time, even if it is to talk, they feel very satisfied! Or, they do not talk just quietly look at the children’s appearance, they will feel happy.
I understand filial respect, I do not like to use the word “filial”, very simple, is to respect their wishes and make them feel happy.
I don’t understand filial respect from this movie, but I understand it after a painful and regretful experience. The feeling was like a knife cutting into my heart, and I will remember it for the rest of my life. I don’t even dare to listen to the Chopstick Brothers’ “Father” now, because every time I listen to it I get teary-eyed. There are so many places in the film that can be savored and chewed over and over again, and I really don’t have the time or energy to really feast on it otherwise. I had to take one or two of the places that touched me the most as an appetizer, carefully cooked and served to my friends to taste. No matter how good or bad it is, I just want to do my best.
The climax of the film is at the end, and there are two episodes that touched my heart, when the eldest daughter asks Noriko and Kyoko if they have prepared mourning clothes: because they didn’t think their mother would die at all in their hearts, they hoped that her mother would turn out to be safe, which is the first reflection of their hearts, very different from the first reflection of the eldest daughter and the eldest son!
In this episode, I am not trying to say who is right and who is wrong, I just think this is a kind of deposit, you can see something from it.
Often what people care and care about most in their hearts about the same person or thing will be directly reflected in their words and actions. The youngest daughter, Kyoko, and daughter-in-law, Noriko, cared most about “the person” – their mother! Forgive me for saying that the eldest son and the eldest daughter care most about “things and things” – mourning and mourning clothes! Some of you may not agree with me, but that’s natural, everyone has their own opinion.

First of all, as a woman of flesh and blood with seven emotions, eight years after her husband’s death, she still kept her name and morality alone, and no one asked her to do so, but she did so willingly. She and the old man talk, and the precious character of the jewel comes out through her true feelings.
Towards the end of the film, the old man gives Noriko the watch that was his wife’s most important and precious possession, meaning that the old man has already taken her as his daughter. As a daughter rather than a daughter-in-law, there is no question of remarriage, and the old man gives Noriko a complete release.
